Application of Silica Powder in Plastics
Silica powder can be used in plastics in products such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) flooring, polyethylene and polypropylene films.
PVC floor tiles filled with silica powder can enhance the wear resistance of the products. In PVC floors, when the quartz powder with a fineness of 320 mesh is filled in an amount of 160-180 parts, the floor produced fully meets the requirements of GB4085-83 standard, and the floor surface is smooth and scratch-resistant.
In PVC acid-resistant sheet tubes, when the filling amount of 400 mesh quartz powder is 10%-15%, compared with other fillers, it has low viscosity and good fluidity, improves processing performance, is conducive to the extrusion and molding of products, and the acid resistance of the acid-resistant sheet tubes is significantly improved. Silicon powder with a large specific surface area (above 600 mesh) and high activity filled polyethylene (PE) agricultural film can improve the physical, chemical, and optical properties of the products, and filling polypropylene can improve the mechanical properties of the products. The application of powdered quartz in PE film was studied. After being ultrafine, graded, purified, and surface modified, powdered quartz ore was filled into PE film. Quartz has the function of blocking infrared rays to slow down the heat loss of plastic greenhouses and improve their thermal insulation performance. Through research, when ultrafine powdered quartz is added to PE film at 8% to 12%, its processing performance is good, the filler has good dispersion fluidity and uniform distribution in the resin, and the mechanical properties of the obtained PE film are close to those of pure resin film, exceeding the standard requirements.
