Application of Silica Powder in the Coating Industry

Application of Silica Powder in the Coating Industry

In the coating industry. The particle size, whiteness, hardness, suspension, dispersibility, low oil absorption, high resistivity, and other characteristics of silica powder can improve the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, insulation, and high temperature resistance of the coating. Silica powder used in coatings has always played an important role in coating fillers due to its good stability.

Especially for exterior wall coatings, SiO2 raw materials play a decisive role in weather resistance. With the increasing prosperity of the construction market, the coating industry has also developed rapidly. In 2000, my country's coating production reached 1.8394 million tons, an increase of 7.42% over 1999, and the production of architectural coatings reached 563,200 tons, an increase of 9.95%.

Therefore, the amount of silica powder used has also increased, and at the same time, higher requirements have been put forward for the ultrafineness and modification of silica powder. Adding silica powder to the patented super exterior wall wiper paint has good effect, erosion resistance, and low cost for exterior wall decoration. At the same time, the research and application of nano-SiO2 have attracted more and more attention.

In terms of application in special coatings, 1250 mesh silicon powder is used, and the surface is coated with SnO2 by chemical co-precipitation technology to obtain composite conductive powder, which is widely used in electronic appliances, aerospace, military, and electromagnetic shielding.

The volume resistivity of the conductive coating made with this conductive powder is only 12.6Ω·cm, and all indicators meet the national standards.

In the patent of flame-retardant insulating coating, the thixotropic properties of the coating are improved by adding silicon powder. The coating has the characteristics of uniform coating, no cracks, short curing time and low cost.

In the patented road marking coating, waste plastics are used as raw materials, and fillers such as silicon powder, quartz sand, and glass beads are added. The production cost is low because of its high fluidity and leveling properties, the construction cost is low.
